that day bloomed delicate-
a wilted rose-
he had been counting heartbeats

overhead a bridge arched deceptive
the river was still asleep
breathing soft smoke in tandems

he drowned himself, disappointed

i lay mangled a few feet away,
clad in his shroud of delirious fog-
